EVIL

“EVIL” is the twelfth track on Melanie Martinez's third album, "PORTALS". The first snippet circulated on March 10th, 2023 when Atlantic Records sent an edible egg with a USB in it with a snippet of the track to a fan. Later, on March 18th 2023, Melanie performed the full song live in Lollapalooza, Argentina. It was released as part of the album on March 31st, 2023. This song heavily reflects on past relationships of Martinez and her realization of the toxicity of them. Melanie claims it is the favorite of the "conflict" songs on the album "PORTALS". She describes how she wanted the lyrics to be savage and cunty. She kept rewriting lyrics so that they fit her true raw emotions, and even claims to have blown out her vocals recording "EVIL". She claims it was the most challenging song on "PORTALS" to record. It has an instrumental that consists of a light-pop fused with synth rock elements. Read more on Last.fm.
