Introspective
Track
“Introspective” is the thirteenth and penultimate track on Oliver Tree’s debut album "Ugly is Beautiful".
The song is about Oliver looking through his mind (like in the album cover). One of the lines blatantly says, “It’s in my head, head”, and the title is “Introspective”.
‘Someone who is introspective spends considerable time examining his own thoughts and feelings.’
He seemingly addresses another person in the verses with lines like “Shut your fucking mouth up, it’s fine” and “Could you ever take control of yourself?…Stop being so full of yourself”, but it seems apparent that he’s actually berating himself on these matters.
"'The song ‘Introspective’ is really about getting lost in the thoughts in your own head. Sometimes we have things we want to keep to ourselves, things we don’t want to share with others. Sometimes we just don’t have the right words. Sometimes those words don’t exist. Sometimes we make assumptions. Sometimes we, in our head, make up a million scenarios, and it’s not the best way to go about things. Don’t overthink it. Don’t try to spend too much time trying to think about how it’s going to go wrong. Just put your bootstraps on, buckle up, buddy, and go in there, do it.'"
